Running On Empty

Have you had one of those days or weeks where you are just done in by the end of it?

Your feet are cement blocks, thinking like stirring porridge, words quick to fly and tears ready to fall. The urge to fly away somewhere quiet and secluded pulls strongly.

I feel your pain, Sister. Busyness, stress, age, cuts, burns, blisters and spiritual attacks by the enemy, have all brought me to the end of my reserves.

My spirit knew I needed strength, energy and wisdom for one more day or it wouldn’t be pretty! Desperately I whispered a simple prayer, a cry for help and relief, not knowing what to pray about specifically, or even what I really needed. I only knew it felt like a heavy stone was hanging from a rope around my neck.

Sipping my coffee, I read the bible verses written in my daily devotional. The words blew across my spirit like a cool breeze on a miner’s face.

Even when we have no words and nothing left in us, the Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf. He groans with feelings and thoughts in a way we aren’t capable of – a supernatural, perfect way.

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.”

Romans 8:26 – 27

What sweet balm this is for my weakened soul. I don’t have to say the right words or even make coherent sentences because I have a translator who can speak the right language for me. When I believed in Jesus Christ as the risen Son of God, the Holy Spirit, third person of the Trinity, took up residence in my soul. I have a roommate who knows the perfect will of God!

How do you spell relief?

I spell it….. H O L Y S P I R I T. I am so grateful the Lord left me a Counselor!

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” John 14:16-17

So dear ones, when you are depleted and feel like you can’t even pray right, remember you don’t have to. You can ask the Spirit within your soul, your forever counselor, to groan with you and for you and intercede with perfect utterings on your behalf. He does it all the time, even when we are unaware of it.

When you don’t have words or your own, go to the Scriptures and pray the words written there for you, or pray the prayers of saints who have gone before us. Our Counselor dwells within us, He knows our hearts, our needs and will transform our words and groanings into sweet incense before our LORD.

Oh my friends, don’t forget we are not alone on this journey of life!

Be well!

Patricia
