The Voice of Truth

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying ‘This is the way; walk in it.'” Isaiah 30:21 NIV

Life is full of voices. We are constantly being bombarded by words from family, friends, media, music, reading, etc. and they are often differing opinions or contradictory information.

Move, don’t move. Buy new, buy used. Wood, composite. Classical, jazz. Mask, no mask. Restrict, open up. Paper , digital. Stay, go. Live, die. Self, others.

Then there is the voice that comes from inside our head. I recently heard that statistically 78% of people talk negative words to themselves. Hmmm, on the one hand I am relieved to know I am not alone but on the other hand…….that is sad.

“I’m a loser.” , “Nobody likes me.”, “I’m no good at anything!”, ” I’m too fat”, “I’m too skinny”, “I give up!”

Like my friend Tess said in her blog, “Listen, Sister…” at Tess Scott.com, words can hurt “like sharp stones from a slingshot”. They seem so small on their own but are so powerful when used.

They come tumbling over lips, flying out of mouths, scrawling over paper with ink or lead, popping up on screens and rumbling around in our “little grey cells” as Hercule Poirot would say.

Words can be encouraging, uplifting and inspiring as well.

The most important words though come from the Voice of Truth. What God says about us in His Word.

“I am fearfully and wonderfully made” – Psalm139:14

“Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Luke 12:7

“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” 1 Corinthians 12:27

I need to preach the gospel to myself everyday. Through reading His Word (the Bible), listening to worship and praise music, reading or listening to podcasts by Godly people and speaking Gods’ truth to myself, sometimes out loud.

This is where memorizing bible verses comes in handy. When you have memorized verses that speak to your heart, they are ALWAYS with you! No matter where you are or what circumstance you find yourself in, you can hear truth in your head.

So I would encourage you today, find one verse, even a small one and say it to yourself over and over. Eventually it will become a part of you and you will always have the Voice of Truth in you.

In case you are interested there is a song called The Voice of Truth by Casting Crowns.

Be well!

Patricia
