Reflection–n. 1. Reflecting or being reflected; reflected light, heat, colour, or image. The Oxford Illistrated Dictionary
Light–n. 1. appearance of brightness; amount of illumination in a place, one’s fair or ordinary share of this. The Oxford Illustrated Dictionary
The moon in our night sky does not shine of it’s own accord. Interestingly, it is made of dust which has a peculiar refective propery to it. Due to this fact the moon reflects the light of the sun onto the Earth and lights up the darkness of night, especially when it is full. It is beautiful to look at but also very helpful when there are no man made lights around or they fail.
Clear calm lakes make beautiful reflections of the trees , mountains even cottages surrounding them. They double the beauty we see.
Sunlight is reflected in so many ways by many things; some we see, like water, glass, snow, etc.; some we often miss like clouds, leaves, sand and flower pistils.
Humans reflect as well but not sunlight. We reflect what we believe, what we watch, what we read, what we listen to, how we feel, etc..
As believers, though, we are to reflect the light of God.
“And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 3:18 NIV
The bible says that Christ alone,”is immortal and dwells in unapproachable light”. 1 Timothy 6:16
Have you ever seen the light of the Lord glowing in someone’s face? I have. When I was in my early thirties and was searching for Him. A friend was witnessing about his faith in Jesus and how there was no turning back and his face began to glow and I knew it was supernatural; the light of God.
“There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.” Matthew 17:2

A few years later, I heard a missionary woman speak about the same thing. She had visited a jail somewhere and was to speak to a group of very dangerous hardened criminals. As the jail door was opened and she had to walk through the large group of these men, she felt afraid but walked on in faith. They were all very quiet and all at once a large man stepped forward and said, “Did you know your face is glowing?” She said no but thanked him for telling her.
This is what I long for, that others would see the light of Christ glowing in me. The only way that will happen is if I am seeking Him and His glory more and more. Not only learning about Him but spending time with Him , talking, listening, waiting and walking in faith.
Friend, stop and consider, what are you reflecting today? How can you live so that you reflect the greatest light there is? Let us be not bowed by the weight of the world like those around us but let us stand tall in faith. We are made in the image of the One true light and He never fails to shine His love in us.
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light”. Ephesians 5:8
Lord God, help me to live as a child who dwells in your light and reflects your glory. Holy Spirit, strengthen my faith and teach me, guide me in The Way of Truth.
Reflect well!
