What wakes you up at night?
I really want to know,
as I gaze out over
The moonlit snow.
What makes your eyelids pop
in the dark of the night?
Moths in your brain seeking
a path of light?
What makes your heart thump-thump,
tap-dancing in your chest?
A fist of anxious fear
stealing your rest?
What wakes you up at night?
I really want to know.
Is it friend, or fiend,
who won’t let go?
Whose claws have sunk within,
the patterns of your thoughts,
dripping poison doubt
about what you ought?
Ought to think, do and say,
who to be, or be not.
Who says what is right,
have I forgot?
What wakes you up at night?
I really want to know.
Who helps you battle?
Where do you go?
Where does your help come from?
Who speaks against the lies?
God is your refuge,
lift up your eyes.
The Lord is our Shepherd,
before and behind,
He whispers His Word
into our minds.
What wakes you up at night?
I really want to know.
What lurks in the black
and needs to go?
Turn your thoughts to Jesus
and dwell upon His love.
Sing a song of praise
to God above.
Hear His Spirit tell you
You’re loved beyond belief,
and burrow into
a sweet relief.
Sisters, what does wake you up at night? I really do want to know. I would love the opportunity to pray for you.
Be well!
