Who are you, when there are no mirrors to tell you differently? When no one is looking at you, and you don’t have to wonder what they are thinking about you; assessing, judging, labelling, for good or bad? Who are you when it is just you, Creation, and God, in a stolen sacred moment?
Alone in the presence of God, we are free to be who He created us to be, who we long to be. We get to rest in His love and who He is, free to commune with the Lover of our soul and experience soaking in His presence. Here we can breathe deep and exhale, drinking deeply of His majesty and love for us. With refreshed eyes, joy floods into our hearts as we feast on the glory of His works and many blessings, both big and small.
In these sacred moments, we get a taste of Heaven, home. Our spirits become lifted, encouraged and filled with gratitude for this most precious gift called life. But not just ordinary life, life with the Almighty Creator God. Our joy is knowing we are seen down to our DNA and accepted, welcomed, and loved! It doesn’t have to be a time when you are alone. It’s possible to experience it even when surrounded by noise, activity and people. A moment where we pause and look up, remembering we are not alone, that our loving Father is with us, right where we are. He is present in that moment, and His glory surrounds us in all we see.
“On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”
John 14:20 NIV
Like various, scattered stones on a beach, away from the rushing water, we are pale versions of who we were created to be. When those same stones, however, are washed by waves, their colours and characteristics burst forth. Similarly, when we are soaked in the blood of Christ. and the living water of the Holy Spirit springs up in us, our true identities become clearer. We are free to sit and muse with our Maker, seeing our characteristics, colours and markings with new eyes and finding joy in them.
So, who are you, and who do you long to be? Being alert to these sacred moments, alone with our Lord, helps us grow and find refreshment for our continued journey home. Then with renewed spirits, we go forward, striving to grow in our characteristics, becoming more Christ-like, and use them for His glory.
Sisters, you were created to be more than you appear to be. Seek some sacred moments to dip yourselves in the holy, living water of time in the presence of the One who loves you beyond measure, and rest in the freedom found there to be who you are. Take time to revel in who He is, and who you are in Him. Have fun dreaming with Him of all He longs you to be, and rejoice in being chosen to do life together, with Almighty God!
Be well!
