A few days ago my grandson was sent home because he complained of a “sore tummy”. This child always complains of this when he is stressed. The school said he couldn’t come back unless he had a Covid-19 test or self-isolated for 14 days, even though they knew he has experienced this “sore tummy” in the past! I picked him up from school, he greeted me with a big smile and then wanted to come to our place to visit. Sick? Then when we said no, he went home, ate all his lunch, a huge piece of watermelon and then went outside to play! Covid-19? No other symptoms, no fever, nothing!

Friends, there is a whole lot of stupid going on!!

Children are being put through Covid 19 tests (which are NOT pleasant) for no reason. Provinces and schools all have different rules. Doctors are being overwhelmed with requests by frantic parents, to have their children diagnosed as not having Covid, so they can work. Politicians are acting like 5 year olds on television. People are harassing and even threatening others who disagree with the government’s handling of things. Groups are using incidents to further their own agendas. I became so confused, frustrated and angry! I wanted to lash out!

Then a thought floated into my reeling brain: is this how our Lord wants me to respond?

Life seems out of control. The clowns seem to be running the circus! Yet the bible tells us there is One who is in control. Our Sovereign God.

I had to go and be still and read what scripture said about His sovereignty.

“A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.” Proverbs 29:11 NIV

Sovereign – n. Supreme ruler, esp. monarch, adj. Supreme; possessing sovereign power.

Omnipotence – n. Infinite power; God; great influence. Oxford Illustrated Dictionary

According to Wayne Grudem in Systematic Theology, ‘omnipotence is derived from two latin words, omni, “all,” and potens, “powerful,’ thus meaning “all-powerful”, but in his definition of omnipotence he states that God’s omnipotence means that God is able to do all his holy will.‘ In other words God can do anything except that which goes against his good character.

How different from the human leaders in our world.

Our Lord is Omnipotent, Sovereign over everything, everybody and every circumstance.

This is not His plan “B”. He knows what is happening, how we are feeling and ultimately what is best for us each, individually. His will is always for His glory which is what is for our best. It may not seem like it at the time but we can’t see the big picture. We can’t see what He may be protecting us from. We don’t know His thoughts or His ways. We don’t see the big picture of what is going on all over the world and what is taking place in the spiritual realm. We are only sacks of molecular dust who only use 10% of our brains! Yet He loves us and cares for us and everything is unfolding as it should.

“My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.” John 10:29 NIV

It may be that the clowns are running things, but God put those clowns in power, He allowed it for a reason. He has allowed this pandemic and the exact rulers, leaders, decision makers that needed to be in place! It doesn’t make sense to me but what I need to be thinking of is, what is God wanting teach me through this time? How is He wanting me to use my time, energy and abilities? How can I practice and experience His presence in the midst of the madness and love others well?

I had to repent of my sinful desire for vengeance and taking my eyes off of Him and His Sovereign Glory! I let myself get sucked up by fear and the worship of comfort! I needed a reset.

“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he gives all men life and breath and everything else. From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.” Acts 17:24 – 28 NIV

It’s so easy to get caught up in the hysteria surrounding us in the world. If we let our guards down briefly the enemy attacks like “a roaring lion”. He wants confusion and fear to fill our hearts and minds because then he has us where he wants us. Doubting our Lord and Savior; our Omnipotent King! Thinking we have a better plan; that God has left the sinking ship. It’s not true! Don’t believe it! The King is alive and in control. He knows the beginning and the end and the middle too, because He’s in it, He orchestrated it, it’s all part of plan “A”.

Beloved by God, when your mind begins feeling bombarded by contradictions, misinformation, lies, deceit, drama, infringment of rights and a world that seems to be sinking further and further into chaos; when you feel your frustrations, fear, anger and helplessness begin to build up to the point of overflowing proportions; stop, take a breath and reset your mind on Jesus, the lover of our souls! Consider who is really in control; our Sovereign Lord who has taken up residence in our very souls to speak truth and light to us. Then go on in the light and truth of his Holy Word.

“And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!” Revelation 19:6
