Colours

What colour are you?

Colours, colours everywhere. Bright, flashy orange; blazing, fiery red, deep, calming crimson; brilliant, glowing yellow, or background wallflower green. They all add to the feast for our eyes, which almost overwhelms. A tapestry of colour woven together. Beyond the science of how, is the question of why? What purpose does it serve? Other than the ability of our eyes to acknowledge and enjoy the beauty of it. And who gave us that gift? The ability to enjoy beauty serves no purpose in evolution and survival of the fittest. So why does the sight of a blanket of vibrant colours, complementing each other in their beauty, cause us to pause, drink it in with our eyes and sigh in satisfaction of the soul?

“And one cried to another and said:

‘Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;

The whole earth is full of His glory!’”

Isaiah 6:3 NIV

That is why. The earth declares the majesty and glory to God through our senses.

  • Colours, flowing lines, interesting shapes and sizes.
  • Textures calling to be touched and experienced.
  • Scents filling us up in pleasure or making our mouth water.
  • Tastes which comfort, soothe and thrill us.
  • Sounds of rushing, flowing or trickling water, children laughing, babies breathing, exquisite music that lifts our spirits to heights beyond imagination.

The LORD calls to us and declares His love for us through all this. The world is a love letter to humanity. It at once shows us our insignificance through star studded skies, vast galaxies, towering mountain ranges and vastly deep ocean waters, while blessing us with the mind to appreciate and know it is for our pleasure and enjoyment. Created by a majestic powerful, perfect, compassionate and loving God.

But each human being is also a part of Creation, made to declare the glory of God. We are each uniquely designed with specific features, talents and gifts–colours-to point each other to, and encourage one another in declaring His glory.

Does joy and gratitude for the goodness of God sing in the hearts of others because of your friendship?

When you depart, what taste do you leave in their mouths, ? The sweetness of the Word of God?

What scent do you bring into the lives of those around you? Are they left with the aroma of Jesus in the room?

How do they feel in your presence? Do they long to be touched by the Holy Spirit they see in you? Drawn to experience and know the Jesus you have?

So, what colour are you? Bright outgoing orange, fiery, passionate red, deep thoughtful crimson, brilliant, joyful yellow or wallflower gentle green? It doesn’t matter what colour you are. The important thing is to display it to its fullest for the glory of the One who loves you beyond measure. He created you the colour you are for this purpose and this time.

Don’t get caught up in envying the other colours and believing God is holding out on you—doesn’t love you as much. The enemy wants us to buy into that age-old lie. He’s been using it for generations. He slides it into our thoughts when our guard is down. But if we turn to Jesus, He will destroy it with the truth of His character. Look around you at the incredible playground He has blessed us with and feast on His declaration of majesty and love, and this is just a foretaste of what He desires for those who love Him.

Stand tall, Sisters, and shine your colours to a world lost in the dark and hopelessness. Without the variety and uniqueness of each colour, we lose the beauty of a tapestry or quilt. Trust the Lord to weave your colour into His design because He sees the whole.

Be well!

Patricia
